In Camelot’s Blood by Sarah Zettel, the final book in the Paths to Camelot series, we finally get to see Sir Agravain, the cold and sarcastic brother lose his heart to Lady Laurel. Sir Agravain is the least likable brother from the sons of Lot. However, in this novel he proves himself to be a true romantic hero. His wife Lady Laurel is a match for him in strength and brains. In this final installment, Lauren and Agravain must stop Morgaine and Mordred from taking over Goddodin and Camelot. With his wit and her magic, they are able to find love and stop evil from taking over the land.
Camelot’s Blood Book Review
This tale has a slower pace than the other three books. The action doesn’t pick up until halfway through the book. It was only mildly aggravating because I wanted to see Laurel and Agravain jump into action. However, readers do get to see the slow build up of their romance. Their marriage is arranged for political reasons. The two barely know each other when they take their vows. They have to get to know each other. Lady Laurel sees past Agravain’s cold wall.
Although a passionate marriage seems impossible, the two realize they are falling in love. They see the bright and dark inside each other and accept it. The couple may be in Camelot, but their relationship is like most modern couples learning to get to know each other. Most of all, it was great to see the loving and gentle side to Agravain. He gets a bad reputation in the earlier books. But in truth, the hero with the hidden sides is always my favorite.

Another enjoyable aspect of the book is the attention to detail. Zettel makes you feel like you are in the scene. You can see Laurel’s wedding gown in your mind. You can visualize the different races and clans that make Londinium home. Zettel goes into more detail about the importance of Excalibur and its scabbard. The story tells what makes the pieces paramount to the kingdom. Some questions are answered about the history of Guinevere’s family and kingdom. Readers come to understand that the true power of Camelot is with its women.
Overall, this book was a great ending to the series. The first book is always my favorite, but this one was equally amazing. Lovers of the Arthurian legends will enjoy the emotional journey and dramatic ending to the story. A real happy ending takes love, effort, and sacrifice. Pick up a copy of Camelot’s Blood if you want an epic romance!

Oh wow, I think I read the previous book when I was like thirteen and remember being sad that Laurel ended up in a loveless marriage – I’m so glad she got her happy ending! I’ll definitely have to read this one now 😀
