The 100 Best Cheerful Rom-Com TV Shows to Watch

These feel-good romantic comedies will brighten your day!

I love the romantic comedy genre: a classic for its ability to put a smile on your face and lift your mood. Whether it’s a witty Nora Ephron movie like You’ve Got Mail or a period piece like Mr. Malcolm’s List, I can’t seem to get enough. And while it’s easy to find romantic comedy movies, a list of rom-com TV shows is harder to come by.

Credit: Friends (Warner Bros. Television); Jane the Virgin (Warner Bros Television/CBS Television); Pushing Daisies (Warner Bros. Television); The Vicar of Dibley (BBC); Chuck (Warner Bros Television/NBC).

So, I wanted to focus on the best feel-good romantic comedy shows you should add to your queue – from the classics to today, especially when you’re looking to laugh after a hard day. Now more than ever, we need content that makes us happy.

In this list, I’ll explore 100 of the best rom-com TV series of all time, from beloved classics like The Nanny and Friends (rest in peace, Matthew Perry) to new favorites like Jane the Virgin

I chose a mix of personal favorites, popular and iconic shows, high-quality and critical reception series, shows with cultural/historical impact, and hidden gems for this list. And while many of these could be argued to be “pure” romantic comedy shows, some are romantic sitcoms, comedies with romance, rom-com miniseries, or even romantic dramedies.

But all have significant elements of the rom-com. Expect to find shows with central love stories (or major romantic subplots), comedic moments, a lighthearted or feel-good tone, memorable meet-cutes, romantic developments with conflicts thrown into the mix, sweet romantic scenes, lightbulb moments, grand gestures, and hopefully (and usually) a happy ending.

So, grab some popcorn and get ready to explore the best rom-com TV shows to watch. And as a bonus, I’ve included a few extras at the end!

For more romantic entertainment, see our list of the 100 Unabashedly Romantic TV Shows to Watch

2. ANNE OF GREEN GABLES/ ROAD TO AVONLEA (1985-2000)

Known for their Edwardian Romanticism and quaint small-town charm, Anne of Green Gables and its TV spinoff, Road to Avonlea, are full of pure nostalgia and heartwarming romantic moments.

While not technically a rom-com, the Anne of Green Gables miniseries (and sequel) about the orphan Anne Shirley follows (in part) the rivals-to-lovers/friendship-to-lovers romance between Anne and Gilbert Blythe – with the two of them sharing numerous romantic comedy moments – including an adorable meet-cute, a failed proposal, grand gestures, and a happy ending, of course.

On the other hand, Road to Avonlea continues the Kevin Sullivan style of period drama Romanticism with plenty of enjoyable love stories. For rom-com fans, I recommend the episode “Old Quarrels, Old Love” in Season 2. Full disclosure: it’s one of my favorite shows.

You can watch Anne and Road to Avonlea on Gazebo TV.
