I didn’t mind the “Fleabagging”, even though it was a stretch to see Anna Elliot like this rather than “patient and enduring”. My biggest problem was that Wentworth was so charmless, when he is one of the more appealing of Jane Austen’s heroes. In this version, I almost wanted Anne just to marry Mr Elliot instead. I also felt that they spelt everything out too much – we aren’t so stupid we can’t work it out for ourselves.
Richard E. Grant was wonderful as Sir Walter and I enjoyed the interpretation of Mary. Every time I though she’d overdone it I realised that mostly those words were straight from the book.
I thought the multi-racial casting was fine. It seemed irrelevant, as it was in the recent film of David Copperfield.
My husband and daughter were both new to Persuasion and enjoyed it.

The only good thing about the movie is Dakota Johnson and the great idea of talking to the camera! the adaptation is terrible and does not follow the story of Jane Austen, making it multiracial is changing the historical facts

In reply to emme1990. I'm afraid I have to disagree. I think diversity in period dramas is much needed. There is room for all kinds of period dramas and interpretations of stories.

They have ruined it, and the Bridgerton Series ruined too. Very sad putting black aristocrats in, which is so “woke” it is laughable. Where did common sense go?
