Mr. Darcy continues to capture hearts of readers in this book of short stories with the man himself’s perspective. The Darcy Monologues, featuring fifteen authors, looks at different events from Pride and Prejudice and writes new versions of events or just tells the stories from Darcy’s point of view.

The Darcy Monologues Review

The book is a delightful journey into Austen’s world. Each of the authors provide a unique voice and perspective to the romantic tale. The stories focus on scenes ranging from Darcy and Elizabeth’s wedding night (not explicit) to an alternate proposal scene that takes place while Darcy and Elizabeth are at Lady Catherine’s home.

Personally, I found From the Ashes by J. Marie Croft the most entertaining. Seeing Mr. Darcy intoxicated and writing his famous letter to Elizabeth invited readers into Darcy’s emotional turmoil. And let’s face it, there was no way he was calm while writing this letter. It shows how the grief and despair affects him when he thinks Elizabeth believes him a scoundrel. His drunkenness leads to discarded drafts and tipsy behavior. The story shows us a new side of Darcy that’s hard to imagine. However, it only increases fans’ love for him.

In all, each story lifts the heart and makes you think about the characters in a good way. But the best thing about the book is that it doesn’t ruin the characters. It’s not making Darcy into someone else. Now, there is some cut to dark love scenes. They aren’t graphic, merely implied. The book is shareable with your mom or a teenager with no embarrassment. There are also a few sad moments in the book to bring the reader down. Still, go check out The Darcy Monologues immediately! For Mr. Darcy fans, it’s a must read.

ADAPTATION RECOMMENDATION

There are already great adaptations of Pride and Prejudice out there. But it would be nice to see some of the scenes from this book added into an updated version. Darcy and Elizabeth finding a trap door at the Netherfield ball is a delightful thought.

Content Note: There are two love scenes in the book though they are not explicit. There are also some instances of profanity in a few of the stories including one “F” word.
