It’s definitely one I really want to re-watch, too, Melanie. I’ve only seen it once with exception to re-watching the moments for this article. Either way, it’s one on my “keeper” list, and a period drama that future films (dramas, and even comedies) can learn from. It’s the kind of story I think most viewers really look for.

Aren’t all the characters glorious!? And isn’t it lovely when a story can reveal something new with each re-watch? To me, these are the best sorts of stories!

Thanks so much for sharing your impressions of ‘Guernsey.’ Always happy to chat with others, and learn about their impressions. 🙂

I’ve been watching and re-watching it — start to finish, and selected scenes. I can’t get my head and heart out of it. Thank you for this piece, which does it such justice. I loved all of the Guernsey characters — so richly brought to life. After Juliet and Dawsey I especially love Isola, and I appreciate how throughout the film her quiet comments cast light on the first and growing embers of Juliet and Dawsey’s connection.

Each time I watch (including once with the subtitles on so I was sure not to miss a word), I find something new. Most recently it was that Amelia, in the scene when Juliet first arrives at her home, is wearing a pin that reads “Elizabeth.”

The cinematography is beautiful, and the acting is simply magical. I love reading and talking about the movie, and I am in complete agreement with you that we need many more on-screen stories like this.
