At The Silver Petticoat Review, we have long had the goal of starting a book club. Well, that day is finally here! We’re calling our book group:
THE SILVER PETTICOAT BOOK CLUB
We even had a custom logo made just for the group! Isn’t it romantic and sassy? In the future, we hope to mail all members their own Silver Petticoat Book Club sticker or create a way to download it. For now, we hope you enjoy the custom-made artwork. We’ll be sharing it on our various social media channels.
WHAT KIND OF BOOKS WILL WE READ?
So, what is our book club about? As we’ve blogged here at The Silver Petticoat Review (and since the time we were kids), we have read many fantastic books with memorable love stories from classic love stories like Jane Eyre to contemporary novels like The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Peel Pie Society. From the popular to the obscure, we love finding and recommending good books with an emotional or fun romance included.
So, we decided to start this book club to discuss great books with a love story. This doesn’t mean our selections are necessarily categorized as a “romance” (they might be), but every book will have (at the least) a significant subplot with a memorable love story.
So, all genres are on the table as long as there’s some romance in it! If you’ve followed our site, you probably have a good idea of what to expect. We’re looking for stories that move us, excite us, and remind us why we fell in love with reading in the first place. We’re also more interested in female authors and female-focused books than not. But it’s not a rule!
WHAT NOT TO EXPECT IN OUR PICKS
Some of our picks might classify as “clean romance,” others might not. However, this romance-themed book club will not include erotica. From paranormal to historical to contemporary to literary fiction, we’re more interested in less explicit stories.
We also plan for this to be a fun club that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We will select each choice carefully and thoughtfully. These will be books we believe in and can get behind! Or a book that we must talk about.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
We plan to select a newer book one month and a classic the next (and then keep that practice in rotation). So, half of our picks will be newer books each year, and the other half will be classics. We love mixing the old with the new and plan to keep that as part of our book club.
Newer Books: Books published between 2000 till now (though we’ll give preference to newly published books).
Classic/Vintage Books: Anything published before the year 2000.
The book selection of the month will be announced on the first day of each month.
We’ll include some fun social media posts throughout the month, and then discuss the book during the final week of the month. That way, everyone will have time to read the book. We’ll have discussion points/questions and include open discussion dialogues on social media. In the future, when we can, we’ll do live chats on Zoom or Facebook Live to discuss together (so make sure to join the private Facebook group). We might even try to get guests when possible to join in.
HOW TO BUY THE BOOKS
We’ll include links to the books on Amazon, IndieBound, and other buy links. Some of the books should also be available to check out from your local libraries. Of course, you can also check your local bookstores!
THE FIRST SILVER PETTICOAT BOOK CLUB SELECTION ANNOUNCEMENT
On July 1, 2020, we will be announcing our first pick, and it’s a fantastic one! Expect a fun announcement. Also, everyone is welcome. Though we intend for this to be a safe, positive space. So, keep that in mind. For August 2020, we will select a classic book to read and discuss.
