Thanks for all your thoughts. Yes, if they continue, I look forward to how they will adapt the other books.

Yeah, I think the 2017 one will likely be superior. And I agree. I will always love the ’80s version the best.

With that being said, I actually thought this was refreshing…

I agree that “Gil” was an absolute NO for me. Uh… back to the drawing board, Canada.

I loved the flashes of Anne’s story (not the hints of abuse, but the back story). In Sullivan’s adaptation, if my mother had been the foster parent, I would have been disciplined for the daydreaming and lack of responsibility shown. Yes, I love to read, but knowing you had chores to do and responsibilities and failing to do them was a quick way to get my books thrown in the trash (unless I could hide them). But, seeing what was shown of this “Anne’s ” life prior to meeting the Cuthberts was better.

I have to say that I did enjoy Sheen’s interpretation of Matthew. He was quiet when he needed to me, talked when, in his screen play words, had something to say, and he showed a great since of appreciation (think the bird scene) that made me fall in love with “Matthew” all over again.

I am looking forward to the continuation of the story and hopefully, they will do a much better job wrapping it up, than the ‘Continuing Story’

I tried not to compare too much, but look on this with fresh eyes. They could have done much, much better with Gil.

Sounds like it might be better to wait for the Netflix series in 2017. They certainly have a top notch production team in place. For me, the 1980’s version will always be the best, but hopefully this new Netflix series will be able to match it and be a worthy successor for a new generation.

Thanks for your thoughts! I’m glad you enjoyed the adaptation. 🙂 There were definitely aspects I really liked. Though I fully admit to loving the ’80s one a lot more. But that’s what is great about different adaptations. Different people will love different versions for different reasons!

I think the storytelling was more focused on the family then the town. I loved how the children were age appropriate. I also felt that Anne was more realistic then the Sullivan movie (which I loved as well). This one was mainly about lonely souls coming together to form a family.

Yeah, I agree. I’m really looking forward to the Netflix one because of the fantastic team behind it. Though certainly, I doubt it will be able to top the perfection of the ’80s casting. Anyway, you’re welcome and thanks! 🙂

In general almost more than anything else, the casting for the 80s mini-series was almost perfect so that aspect is going to be hard to beat. I’m more intrigued by the Netflix/CBC version due out next year I believe. Thanks for the review!
