Late in finding this delightful site, I will add my appreciation of this film. The cast is wonderful, especially Rupert Everett and Julianne Moore. I’m also a certified costume freak and Mrs Cheveley’s pinkish-orange gown, worn when she confronts Lord Goring in his dark, blue study, is spectacular! The production value is perfect.

In reply to Kara @ FoQH. The scene you refer to with Arthur is priceless, Kara. Actually, I should have mentioned it because it makes me smile each time. Love how he plays the scene as well as that banter you mention with Mabel. Really, his entire stream of dialogue is hilarious. Bravo to Everett on that account. Same for me! Each time I see this one, I like it more or as well as my very first viewing. One of my all-time (dare I say this, "classics") of this genre. Thanks for sharing your memories! :)

How can you not love this movie? It is absolutely adorable! And yes. I totally agree with you and Stephanie, Rupert’s Arthur is awesome! His character is the main reason I love this story, I think. His hilarious little asides (like the moment he talks to the bust about how much information he’s so full of and he can’t tell anyone? perfect!) and his delightful banter with Mable and oh, just everything about him. 😀
The first time I watched this was with some friends who did not end up liking it at all, because “bonnet dramas” aren’t their thing. But I fell in love and had to immediately go purchase a copy for myself! I’ve now watched it too many times to count and it never fails to make me grin. 🙂

As do I, Stephanie! It’s a “classic” kind of costume drama in my rankings. Rupert Everett starred in some obscure films if I’m not mistaken and next year, he’s set to appear in the third season of “The Musketeers” (BBC), which I’m excited about. Thanks so much for reading. 🙂

I adore this movie! Rupert Everett is at his most awesome and charming (what ever has happened to him?) and I love Julianne Moore’s performance as well. I think this was the movie that secured my appreciation for her acting skills. Nice Review!
