But it IS NOT the most faithful. Frederick Wentworth is older than his sister, Mrs. Croft in this movie. In the novel and other versions, she is the elder. Also, the 1995 movie had decided to make Mr. Elliot broke again. Which was a big mistake in my eyes.

The English know how to do Jane Austen the best!! I appreciated how the costumes were not overly fancy . The buildings were not perfect, the furniture not overly dramatic.. I felt like I really stepped into that time with the characters.

In terms of the characters being faithful to the original, there is no question in my mind that this version is far and away the best. However, the 1971 version, being a miniseries, gives much more of the book, and is delightful in itself – though it’s Anne is much to assertive at the beginning of the story to fit the character from the book.
As for the 2007 version – not my cup of chocolate!

I think that’s one of the best things about Austen and the adaptations of her novels; at least one will resonate with you!

Captain Wentworth is my favorite.

Yup, to each her own 🙂

I liked the actor in the 2007 version more. And I thought that the actress, Sally Hawkins, did a drop-dead job, as usual. And the scene of Wentworth rides that black horse next to the carriage carrying Anne…amazing. I thought both actors convincing. Sorry. To each her own. 🙂

Thank you! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Persuasion is just one of those stories that sticks, I think. It’s just timeless.

Your review makes me think I should give this one a try!
